Oct 2ndWhen the Oaks Fired: The story of England's worst mining disaster

In December 1866 Barnsley witnessed the worst mining disaster in English history, killing nearly 400 men and boys in a series of underground explosions. Local historian, Stephen Miller, will present the story of the disaster, its impact and legacy.Stephen Miller
Oct 16th Sheffield Cathedral: 800 Years of Sheffield History in One Building A talk which looks at how Sheffield has developed from Saxon times up to the present day and how the city's history can be traced within the walls of its cathedral. Through the building's architecture and stained glass you will discover hidden stories from medieval, Tudor and Victorian times, and meet the people who have shaped Sheffield's history such as the Earls of Shrewsbury, Bess of Hardwick, Mary Queen of Scots and many more. Janet Ridler

Nov 20thFootpad, Kings and HighwaymenIan takes us on a journey that covers just 34 miles of the route of the old Great North Road (now A1) through Nottinghamshire, where horrific battles, haunts of highwaymen, murder and much more took place.
